Thrallhalla's Attila

This is Thrallhalla's Attila. The little horse with the big heart.

Attila was a Tarpan, and the most intelligent horse I've had the pleasure to know. He could get out of any closed gate and would often duck under or swim around fences to get to the more enticing grass.  He was an extremely loyal friend to equine and human alike.  A quadroped 'bulldozer', he often plowed past me at the gate to stay with a buddy being removed from the paddock.  Yes, he could be infuriating, but always amusing.

No, I didn't own this horse.  I made several offers to purchase him in order to bring him to my farm in hopes of giving him the retirement years he deserved, but my offers were turned down.  I will always regret not being there for him in his final days.

The Tarpan is a genetically reproduced extinct equine breed. Originally bred in zoos across the world, these amazing little horses are extremely rare and facing a new threat of extinction.

Our little friend, Attila, was the survivor of a twin birth on January 12, 1985. Atilla is typical of the breed, which all carry the same grey-dun color and strong, stocky build. He was extremely intelligent and very social. He was a great mount for children, although disliked being directed where to go.

Attila was a very special horse who will always live in my heart.

I will miss those soft brown eyes

That grey, velvet muzzle nudging for a treat

The short, quick cadence of your steps

Following behind as I led you toward the field

To friends calling just beyond the gate

I will hold forever in my heart

Your mystical, magical spirit

That honored me in your presence

I wish you an eternity of green grass

No fences

And a pasture full of friends

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, ATTILA .  YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
